Celebrating La Festa della Repubblica Italiana
The school community celebrated “La Festa Della Repubblica Italiana” by wearing green, white and red, “i tre colori”, dressing as either a famous Italian, or in Italian clothing.
During Italian lessons, students discovered the history of the national day and how it is celebrated in Italy today. The school bell was also changed to the Tarantella, which is an Italian folk dance, originally danced as a cure for a condition called tartantism, caused by the bite of a spider. The change in bell made many students dance with joy and dance their own version of this traditional Italian dance. Students were also gifted with a sample of pasta which aided to the celebration of the day and made for a ‘delizioso’ day.
Kai (Year 3) stated it was the best pasta he had ever tasted and Samuel (Kindergarten) told his mum he wanted to eat pasta like that every night.
It was wonderful to see our students Kindergarten to Year 6, as well as our staff engage in the activities of the day, enjoying the cultural diversity the Italian community brings to our Australian society, through food and language. Sigora Disibio shared that “...teaching Italian not only exposes our students to culture, it also develops skills in language, understanding how languages work and how culture has influence on language.
A huge thank you to the staff of the Il Nido Woodfired Pizza Truck who supplied, prepared, cooked and served the pasta to our students and staff. ‘Grazie Mille’.
