There are a variety of co-curricular activities on offer for students at St Columbkille's. All students are encouraged to participate in some of the co-curricular programs available. These programs develop students’ confidence, talents and sense of responsibility.
Some of the opportunities available at St Columbkille's include:
In keeping with our general aim of developing the whole person, sport and physical education are considered important aspects of the school curriculum.
All children are encouraged and motivated to participate in sports, physical education and health programs.
Students are allocated to a particular house for sport – including our school cross country, swimming and athletics carnivals – and other school activities. We encourage healthy competition between the houses and the promotion of team spirit. All family members are in the same house.
The house names reflect the rich history of St Columbkille's Catholic Primary School, and have an associated house colour:
All classes are actively involved in a sporting program each week. The school employs a specialist Physical Education teacher two days per week to facilitate this program. Lessons may include athletics, games and coordinations skills, depending on the season, and involve the teaching of skills in a variety of sports and improving students fitness levels.
All students in Years 3-6 have the opportunity to participate in Diocesan Sports Gala Days in sports such as AFL, rugby league, soccer, netball, basketball, dragon tag and cricket. St Columbkille's also enters teams in the Rod Wishart and Paul McGregor Shield Rugby League competitions, as well as the NSW Futsal Championships.
The three major school carnivals – swimming, cross country and athletics – also act as trials for school teams to participate in Diocesan carnivals. From here, successful students can trial for selection in MacKillop (NSW Catholic Schools) teams, which can lead to State (PSSA), and ultimately, National teams.
Students talented in a variety of winter and summer (team and individual) sports can also trial for selection in MacKillop teams and follow the same selection path as above.
Please refer to our Student Representative Policy for guidelines and expectations when representing our school.
